CAES1001 Academic Communication in English
What is CAES1001?
CAES1001 Academic Communication in English (ACE) is a course designed to equip first-year undergraduates with essential academic English literacy skills for success in an English-medium university environment. The course aims to enhance students’ proficiency and confidence in oral, written, and visual communication. It develops critical reading, information, and digital literacy skills, explores academic rhetoric across various formats, and prepares students to apply these skills in Common Core Courses (CCC).
How can ACE help?
The course aims to help students develop academic English literacy to succeed in their university studies by achieving the following objectives:
- Sharpen their critical reading and information literacy skills.
- Enhance their critical thinking, logical reasoning, and persuasive argumentation.
- Master academic English for impactful writing, speaking, and visual communication.
- Learn to use technology critically and ethically in academic settings.

Students are required to buy the course textbook (either soft or hard copy) and bring it to every session.
