CAES9521 English for Innovation and Technology

Course Description

This 6-credit English-in-the-Discipline course will introduce students in the School of Innovation to professional and technical communication through report writing and oral presentation. The course will provide an intensive English environment and engage students in activities which help them prepare for the completion of the assessments required by the disciplinary project-based course(s) as nominated by the School of Innovation. Assessment is wholly by coursework. Co-requisite: INTC2001 Innovations for the Future / INT3001 [for BSc(I&T) students only].

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Write an informative report that explains technical information in a structured, coherent and professional manner for a specialist audience and related personnel
  • Make a convincing pitch of an innovation in a structured, coherent and succinct manner to a specialist audience and related personnel
  • Evaluate solutions to innovation and technology problems and options available, and make convincing justifications and claims based on real-life disciplinary contexts
  • Carry out self-directed communication enhancement through critically reflecting on presentation performance and identifying areas for improvement
  • Exhibit digital fluency by engaging in ethical, responsible and sustainable digital practices
