The Centre for Applied English Studies will host an international conference from 11 to 13 June 2015.
The conference theme is FACES OF ENGLISH: THEORY, PRACTICE AND PEDAGOGY. The conference aims to provide a platform for academics, researchers, practitioners and research students from around the world to discuss the interdependence between theory and practice, with papers which focus on the analysis, description and teaching of English in order to better understand the ways in which theory, research and pedagogy interact and inform each other. It also welcomes participants to share innovative classroom ideas and/or teaching materials.
You are invited to submit proposals for individual papers, colloquia, workshops, demonstration sessions and poster displays that address any topic relevant to the theme including:
Assessment
Autonomy and out-of-class learning
Corpus linguistics
Discourse and pragmatics
ESP and EAP
Language acquisition
Language and gender
Language for intra- and/or intercultural communication
Language learning style and motivation
Language planning and policy
Language, power and identity
Language teaching and learning (e.g. materials development, syllabus design, teacher development)
Language and technology
There are FIVE types of presentations, namely
1. Paper presentation (20-minute presentation + 5-minute Q & A)
Present on-going or completed research results
2. Workshop (50 minutes)
A hands-on session to address a topic
3. Colloquium (50 minutes)
Present a topic (minimum 3 panel members) and discuss it with participants
4. Demonstration session (10 minutes)
Present and share innovative and practical ideas or teaching materials with participants
5. Poster display
Display on-going or completed research results on a notice board and answer participants’ questions
Each presenter is limited to one individual presentation and one joint presentation / colloquium / workshop / demonstration / poster display.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please register for a presenter account, and submit the title, proposal and short summary of your presentation via the online submission system.
Title of presentation: | 10 words maximum |
Proposal for presentation: | 200 words maximum |
Short summary of presentation: | 50 words maximum |
Biographical statement of presenter(s) | 50 words maximum per presenter |
The Organizing Committee reserves the right of editing the proposals.
Criteria for acceptance
All proposals will be blind reviewed. They will be selected based on relevance to the conference theme, originality and quality of the proposal.

A selection of contributions presented at the conference will be invited for publication in an edited book volume intended for an international publisher or in a special issue of the Asian Journal of Applied Linguistics. Further information will be available in due course.
