BA in English Literature and Linguistics, Providence University

MA in TESOL, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology

PhD in Applied Linguistics, The University of Hong Kong (Excellent Thesis – Top 10%)

Greg completed his PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong. His PhD research investigates language practitioners’ growth in the English-in-the-Discipline (ED) courses, particularly in the discipline of engineering. His research upholds the centrality of disciplinary knowledge in cross-disciplinary teaching contexts, and his publication and conference papers address the nuances of teaching disciplinary communication in the disciplines of engineering, dentistry, and education.

Prior to joining CAES, Greg taught TESOL content courses to English language majors and preservice/in-service primary school teachers in Taiwan. He was also a lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he taught EAP/ESP courses and coordinated an elective English through Food course, in which he specifically incorporated SFL’s APPRAISAL Framework to enhance students’ gastronomical language. In addition, he assisted in the English across the curriculum project on the abstract/book review writing of MA students in Buddhist Studies. He was also invited to support the admin staff with intercultural competence training, MPhil/PhD students with their conference presentations, and undergraduate students in the Toastmasters Club meetings as a language advisor.

At CAES, he is responsible for teaching on Core University English/ED courses and a Dissertation Writing course for MSc students. His primary areas of interest include professional growth of ESP/CLIL practitioners, teaching and learning in cross-disciplinary/cross-curricular contexts, and EAP/ESP pedagogy within the EMI contexts. He has also been invited as a manuscript reviewer for Computers & Education, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and Asia Journal of Applied Linguistics
