Greg completed his PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong. His PhD research investigates language instructors’ development in the English-in-the-Discipline (ED) courses, concentrating on the engineering discipline. His research upholds the centrality of disciplinary knowledge in cross-disciplinary teaching contexts, and his publications and conference papers address the nuances of teaching disciplinary communication within the fields of engineering, science, dentistry, and education.
Before joining CAES, he taught TESOL content courses to English language majors and primary/secondary school teachers in Taiwan. He also lectured at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, teaching EAP/ESP courses and coordinating an elective English through Food course, where he incorporated SFL’s APPRAISAL Framework to enhance students’ gastronomical language. In addition, he contributed to the English Across the Curriculum project for MA Buddhist Studies students’ book review writing and supported admin staff with intercultural competence training.
At CAES, he teaches the foundation EAP course, ED courses for engineering and science students, and a Dissertation Writing course for MSc students. He supervises postgraduate dissertations and portfolios in the Centre’s MAAL Programme. His primary research interests include professional development of ESP/CLIL instructors, teaching and learning in cross-curricular contexts, and EAP/ESP pedagogy within the EMI contexts. Additionally, he has also been invited as a manuscript reviewer for Computers & Education, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, Asia Journal of Applied Linguistic, and Taiwan Journal of TESOL.
