Lorena has taught English as a Foreign Language and English for Academic and Specific Purposes at tertiary levels in China, Europe and the Middle East. Before joining HKU, Lorena was employed at HKUST where she taught Postgraduate English for Science and Engineering students and Foundation in English Listening and Speaking. She was also employed at Twente University in the Netherlands where she tutored international science and engineering students during their Foundation Year programme.
Lorena obtained her CELTA certificate in Strasbourg, France, and holds a PhD in System Functional Linguistics and an MSc in Translation and Intercultural Communication from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
