Prior to joining CAES, Daya taught English at City University of Hong Kong for 5 years full time, besides previous experience in EMB NET section and Secondary School and 18 years in the commercial sector. While at City U, she researched into effective language learners as the manager of the Self-Access Centre and was the EDB coordinator for New Senior Secondary Syllabus (NSS) teacher training workshops.
At CAES, Daya first worked on her doctoral study evaluating the effectiveness of self-access language learning. She started teaching full-time at the Centre in 2012 at undergraduate level, she teaches academic and professional English to students of a range of disciplines, including business, medicine, social sciences and science while supervising MA Capstone Projects in Applied Linguistics. Daya served as the Program Coordinator of English-in-the-Discipline courses for Faculty of Business (2014-19) and Faculty of Medicine, sub-coordinator for Biomedical Science (2019-2023).
She has been involved in innovative pedagogy initiatives such as “Flipped Classroom” and using Google classroom. Other projects include Small Online Private Courses (SPOCs) development and Wikipedia Writing for Biomedical Science students. Her research interests include policy and planning (teacher training and development), self-access language learning and learner autonomy. Current interest is in AI as a tool for enhancing research at HKU.
After retiring in 2024, Daya continues as a part-time lecturer, teaching Master students Presentations and Medical Dissertation as well as some undergraduate courses.
