CAES9721 Academic Communication for Nursing Students

Course Description:

This course aims to improve students’ academic and communication skills for meeting the demands of Nursing Studies.  Students will learn to apply strategies for medical vocabulary development, write a reflective essay using appropriate language and style, and conduct research on a health-related topic and present the findings in an oral presentation.  Assessment is wholly by coursework.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Recognize medical word elements; analyze, build and define medical terms
  • Organise and deliver a presentation that engages the audience
  • Describe, analyze and reflect on experiences with accurate and appropriate language in reflective writing, and structure the piece of writing within a given framework

  • peer evaluation of written assignment
  • group collaboration in reearch and discussion
