The Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) was established in 1992. We provide English language support courses for all undergraduate students of the university, and thesis writing and academic English support for postgraduate students. We also provide an extensive range of self-access learning opportunities and summer intensive courses. As well as this, we teach applied linguistics through two taught masters courses and a PhD programme. Staff of the Centre research and publish in the areas of academic discourse, literacy practices and language teaching and learning. The Centre’s research programme is central to its mission of enhancing students’ academic literacy. CAES also engages in outreach as a way of contributing to the community.
