Vickie completed her PhD in Curriculum Studies at Western University in Canada. Her doctoral research examines the English learning experiences of post-secondary students in Hong Kong. Vickie has extensive experience in teaching academic English at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Prior to joining CAES, Vickie taught English for Academic Purposes courses at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and coordinated a postgraduate thesis writing course. At CAES, she coordinates the Graduate School’s English enhancement course and its workshops, which are designed to enhance postgraduate students’ academic communication skills.
Vickie has led research projects on the enhancement of students’ academic English skills through the development of a corpus to support postgraduate students’ thesis writing as well as the revamping of an independent language learning centre. Her recent project focuses on postgraduate students’ use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in academic writing.
Vickie’s research interests lie in the area of second language education, learner identity, bilingualism and multilingualism, and students’ engagement with GenAI tools in academic writing.
