Families in Hong Kong are organised in small unit known as nuclear family. Two generations live together in a small apartment. It is supposed that their relationship shall be very close. However, it is not the case in most of the circumstances as indicated by increasing incidents of domestic violence, juvenile delinquency and suicide. People begin to look for extra-familial as well as intra-familial explanations in order to understand how family relationship influence social behaviour. One of the aspects of intra-familial factor which people interested in is the relationship among family members and how they communicate with others. If we can understand communication problem within family, we might be able to help people on how to deal with stress and difficulties arising from poor family relation. Furthermore, once we can identify the intra-familial conflict, we can provide appropriate assistance to solve those problems.
