Andy joined CAES in 2023 and is teaching the centre’s Core University English subject and English for specific purposes subjects in the disciplines of arts and business.  

Andy started his career working in the NGO sector at an ESOL and work skills centre in the UK. He then went to teach English in Japan before working at the British Council in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Andy then worked for 11 years at the English Language Centre, PolyU. 

Andy is an experienced subject leader, programme coordinator, and teacher educator. In previous roles he co-led a large-scale EAP subject, coordinated social science ESP subjects, and was the coordinator for a discipline-specific English programme of 30 ESP subjects. He is experienced in curriculum design and has overseen subject development for numerous ESP subjects. Andy has worked on various teacher development projects and committees in the region.  

Andy is interested in EAP/ESP pedagogy, technology-enhanced language learning, and EMI. He has led / co-led projects on academic listening, infographics in EAP materials, writing in the social sciences, and AI interviewing in professional communication subjects. His PhD was a sociolinguistic study of the EMI journeys and EAP needs of undergraduates.
