I have been working as a senior civil engineer for 3 years. I was primarily involved in three big projects last year - the ABC development project, the DEF consultancy project and the GHI planning project.
ABC development project
I conducted a feasibility analysis on the construction of an overpass for ABC Co, which provided time-critical information and soil profile analyses about the Tai Ming site.
Despite the short deadline given, I was able to come up with a comprehensive analysis and provide constructive advice to our client on the next step for their reference.
DEF consultancy project
Together with two co-workers, we liaised with the client representatives and contractors on the application of xx drilling method as an alternative to the previously decided one to the Ching Ching development site.
We successfully convinced DEF that xx drilling method, despite more costly, was safer and less susceptible to weather conditions than YY method.
GHI planning project
This government project has generated nearly HK$2M revenue for our company so a number of senior engineers including myself were involved. I was mainly responsible for strategic and budgetary planning for the project.
I had quite a bit of difficulty in keeping the cost to a minimum because of a number of unforeseen circumstances and the high amount of rainfall last year incurred extra costs as a result of the delays in various parts of the project.
As a senior engineer, I also supervise and mentor 2 junior engineers. We get along well with each other and I constantly provide feedback on their work. I invited them to take part in the DEF consultancy project as I deemed that it was a great opportunity for their professional growth.
While I consider myself strong in technical aspects, I am not proficient in writing reports in English. I constantly make mistakes in grammar and was asked by the Chief Engineer to redraft several sections of the report twice last year. I would welcome opportunities to beef up my language skills.
