Myths and Realities

1. In your work appraisal, you should clearly reiterate your expectations and goals to be met by the employee when stating their job duties.
2. You should use work appraisals as outlets for complaining about employees’ work performances.
3. Employers should hold onto tangible evidence of work or assignments of employees.
4. In performance appraisals, employers should only write down comments regarding the unsatisfactory performance of employees.
5. It is not necessary for the employer to consider the morale of the employee when writing performance appraisals so destructive comments are still acceptable.
6. Evidence is not important when writing performance appraisals. Simply assess the performance of the employee based on your feeling and what you have heard.
