HKU CAES Annual Report 2022-2023

The Communication-intensive Courses (CiC) project badge HKU courses that consist of a syllabus with components that explicitly develop communication-related knowledge, skills and attributes. The CiC Team was delighted to win The University’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 2022. This was a team teaching award in which the CAES collaborated with the Common Core Office and the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL). The winners were Dr. Michelle Raquel, Simon Boynton, Dr. Jack Tsao (Common Core) and Donn Gonda (CETL). The CiC Team would like to thank May Wong and Anne Hu, and all the CiC teachers who have badged their courses. The team would also like to thank Dr. Alex Webb who brought this initiative from Louisiana State University and Professor Ian Holliday who made the CiC initiative possible. Finally, the team would like to thank the CAES Programme Coordinators for badging their courses and peer reviewing courses. In 2022, Dr. Lisa Cheung won The University’s Outstanding Teaching Award (Individual), marking an important milestone of her over two-decade academic career at HKU. The Award recognised her significant contribution and continuous dedication to teaching and learning. Throughout her academic journey at HKU, she has committed herself to enrich her students to become a better writer in English in their academic disciplines. She always believes dialogue is an effective way to support students to become more proactive in learning from the act of discussing teacher’s feedback on their writing. She is also keen on engaging students to partner with teachers in co-teaching and co-developing materials for CAES English courses. She is extremely grateful for the University’s opportunities to develop her teaching practices all these years.
