Highlights of the Year New Elective Course CAES2004: Communication and Community Engagement through Podcasting Professional Development Programmes for Local Primary and Secondary School English Teachers CAES2004 has successfully transitioned from a temporary project to a regular elective course offered at CAES. This course focuses on both communication skills and technical problem-solving for high-quality recordings. Students collaborate in teams to create a Podcast channel and episodes with specific and engaging topics. Students are free to choose their stylistic approach to create an entertaining and educational listening experience for a wide audience. Students have chosen from a diverse range of cultural and historical topics specific to Hong Kong, India, USA, and other regions. This course is CI-badged and students learn professional recording and audio editing techniques and content creation from start to finish. The Specially-funded English Courses (SFEC) team won two tenders for the Professional Development Programmes on English Language Learning and Teaching from the Education Bureau, HKSAR in the 2022-2023 academic year. These teacher training programmes aim to enrich the capacity and subject knowledge of in-service teachers in support of the implementation of the local English Language curriculum at primary and secondary levels. The collaboration with the Education Bureau offers a promising avenue for community service within our profession. It also allows us to apply our expertise in pedagogy to address the teaching and learning needs of the community and provides a platform to enhance our colleagues' scholarship activities and professional development in English language curriculum design. The two series of Professional Development Programmes were coordinated by Dr. Natalie Fong and Dr. Matthew Yeung. Colleagues involved in teaching were Grace Chang, Dr. Daya Datwani, Patrick Leung, Caroline Nixon, Dr. Parco Wong, Denise Wu, and Dr. Matthew Yeung.
