PRIMARY MISSION The Centre for Applied English Studies aims to be recognized as a regional and international leader inthefieldofsecondlanguageeducation through teaching, research and innovation. In this way, we will continue to make a vital contribution to The University of Hong Kong as a leading English-medium university. English language instruction, in the form of academic literacy support, forms the heart of the Centre’s activities. The Centre provided courses for 8,730 postgraduate and undergraduate students in the 2020-2021 academic year. All of our courses have been designed in consultation with faculty colleagues to ensure that they are teaching communication skills which are well-aligned with students’ curricula.
