CONFERENCE, SEMINAR AND OTHER PRESENTATIONS (JULY 2020 – JUNE 2021) COMMITTEES CAES operates a number of in-house committees with clearly defined roles in order to streamline operations and allow for more effective management. The key committees are the Engagement, Research and Innovation Committee (ERIC), the Teaching and Learning Committee (TLC) and the Publicity and Outreach Committee (POC). Their roles and their major work in the 2020-2021 academic year are described below. The Engagement, Research and Innovation Committee (ERIC) is a new committee set up in CAES to ensure that our scholarship, enterprise and innovation strategic plans are developed and implemented in line with the ones of the Faculty and the University. ERIC is a fundamental tool in CAES for discussion, development and fostering a scholarly-informed teaching culture that is beneficial to our students, our staff (personal and professional development), our stakeholders, and our local communities. The new Committee will be instrumental in making CAES more sustainable and increase its revenues through a series of existing and new initiatives, and income generation streams. Overall, ERIC’s work will be instrumental in developing our future plans. During the 2020-2021 academic year, ERIC discussed and considered: (i) the development of new income generation streams including the consolidation and expansion of our current Specially-funded English Courses (SFEC) provision. To this end, a working group has been set to develop an appropriate strategic plan; (ii) the development of a new teacher training course for English teachers in mainland China; (iii) the development of a broad approach to scholarship in CAES. To this end, a working group has been set up to develop a relevant strategic plan; (iv) the development of a new strategic plan for the support of our home-based journal: Asian Journal of Applied Linguistics (AJAL).
