Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in digital content creation for education introduces new teaching pedagogies, but further studies are needed to examine the pedagogical value of AI for language learning. This review critically evaluates HeyGen AI video creation platform through the application of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) principles based on existing empirical studies. The critical analysis shows how HeyGen has the potential to help resolve ongoing English Language Teaching (ELT) problems through its features that align with the Input Hypothesis and Sociocultural Theory frameworks. The critical analysis outlines practical strategies for instruction and assessment, evaluates the platforms’ advantages and limitations, and proposes evidence-based solutions for its ethical integration in ELT. The critical analysis reveals that HeyGen functions as an educational tool that enhances language authenticity, supports differentiation, and increases student engagement when integrated effectively within well-designed pedagogical frameworks.
