Global structure of a report
The IMRAD type of report structure allows you to
introduce your research area deductively,
but then to present your actual study inductively.
See Planning a Report for a
review of these principles.
Deductive Introduction:
You usually begin with an introduction that starts generally, and gradually narrows its
focus
- see this deductive diagram.
Inductive Reporting (of your own
study):
This means you move
- from conducting your own empirical study
- through to discussion of your own results and their
implications for future research.
- check this
link for a diagram of how this completes the hourglass model
