OVERVIEW

This course consists of a series of interactive sessions focusing on the skills needed to enter into the research phase leading to the production of a research dissertation.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course successful participants will be able to:

  1. Design a research project
  2. Make a plan for completing a research project
  3. Justify the chosen methodology for a research project

 

COURSE ACTIVITIES

During this course you will engage in:

  1. Evaluations of research methods in relation to specific research goals
  2. In-class discussions about research design
  3. Peer-work aimed at focusing and justifying research plans
  4. Defense of your research plan

 

STRUCTURE AND APPROACH

The course provides a series of steps towards producing a research design and a workable plan for its execution. You will be able to build on your knowledge of research methods gained in Introduction to Research Methods and develop skills for justifying your choice of methods for particular research goals. This course will prepare you for designing your own dissertation research project.

ASSESSMENT

You will be informed of the assessment at the beginning of this module.

 

READINGS

Review of readings assigned for Introduction to Research Methods is recommended. Other readings will be assigned on an individual basis as needs require.
